APAV awarded with Gulbenkian Prize in Cohesion

The Portuguese Association for Victim Support (APAV) was awarded with the Gulbenkian Prize in the area of Cohesion in 2019 for its work in the area of violence against vulnerable groups.
The Prize was delivered by the President of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Isabel Mota, and President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to the President of APAV, João Lázaro.
APAV thanks this distinction to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and takes it as the recognition of a work of more than 29 years with the victims of crime and violence.
The Gulbenkian Cohesion Award is an incentive to continue APAV's mission: as an innovative project in Portuguese society, at the service to the country, development and social cohesion, support those who are victims of crime and promote the defense of victims' rights.
The Gulbenkian Cohesion Prize was worth € 50.000 and was delivered on July 19, the day the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation honored its Founder (20 July marked his death), in a series of ceremonies that culminated in the delivery of the Gulbenkian Prizes.
APAV on Cybersecurity Summer Bootcamp 2019

APAV attended the Cybersecurity Summer Bootcamp 2019 (https://www.incibe.es/en/summer-bootcamp), hosted by the National Cybersecurity Institute of Spain (INCIBE), which took place in the Spanish city of León between the 15th and the 27th of July. The event is intended for people working in cybersecurity, law enforcement and judicial magistrates.
On July 24th, in the auditorium of the city of León, a series of workshops on the theme of online sexual abuse of minors. The Safe Internet Line (LIS) operational manager, Ricardo Estrela, was one of the guest speakers, presenting the work that LIS develops in combating the spread of online sexual abuse content as a member of the INHOPE association.
Strasbourg held the Victim Support Europe Annual Conference 2019
The Victim Support Europe Annual Conference brings together professionals from member organizations from every corners of Europe. The Conference is a unique opportunity to share knowledge and experiences on providing support to victims of crime. This year the conference, co-organized by the VSE and France Victimes, took place in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The theme of the Conference was Victim recovery: a road with many routes.
João Lázaro, president of APAV and Victim Support Europe, was part of the opening panel and his speech marked the beginning of the Conference.
APAV was also represented by Mafalda Valério, who presented the theme Remote support: the example of victim support helplines. Also present was Marta Carmo who facilitated a workshop on the theme A route to effective and quality services, focused on APAV’s quality management system, monitoring and impact assessment. Bruno Brito participated in the first plenary session of the second day of the Conference, presenting the topic Which psychological assistance for which victim: assessing needs and making available different types of support and facilitated two workshops: Sexual violence against children and Planning for victim support response to a terrorist attack.
APAV at the INHOPE AGM and training meeting
The INHOPE - International Association of Internet Hotlines AGM (Annual General Meeting) and trainign meeting took place in Dublin on June 24th to 27th.
APAV was represented at the event by its President, João Lázaro, and by the operational manager of the Safer Internet Helpline (LIS), Ricardo Estrela.
June 27th was dedicated to the sharing of experiences related to the prevention of the dissemination of sexual abuse content of children and young people. In this context, Ricardo Estrela made a presentation entitled “Prevention and Awareness: Synergies between Helplines and Hotlines: APAV integrated approach".
New campaing: "The marks of violence in childhood never pass."
The Portuguese Association of Victim Support (APAV) launched a new campaing to raise awereness about the reality of violence that children and youngsters suffer. The campaign was creatively developed, in a patronage way, by the agency Fullsix and part of the motto: "The marks of violence in childhood never pass."
In parallel it was also presented the new resources of the CARE Network: the new microsite and the second edition of the CARE manual. The microsite is available at: apav.pt/care.
